Welcome to BrendanFraser.net - Brendan Fraser Biography

Brendan Fraser is an actor who holds dual citizenship in the U.S. and Canada. He, his wife, Afton Smith and their children, Griffin (born Sept. 17, 2002), Holden (born Aug. 16, 2004) and Leland (born May 2, 2006) currently make their home in Los Angeles, CA.

Born in Indianapolis, IN on Dec. 3, 1968, Brendan James Fraser grew up the youngest of four boys. His father’s career caused the family to move frequently; as a child, Brendan called Washington, California, Ottawa, the Netherlands and Switzerland all “home”.

Brendan embarked on his acting career with a theatrical performance in London. Later he starred in a student production of Oklahoma! at his school in the suburbs of Seattle. At the age of 13, the budding actor was sent to Upper Canada College, a boarding school in Toronto, where he worked the school’s little theater. While attending UCC Brendan applied for and was accepted at Seattle’s Cornish College of the Arts.

Though he earned a scholarship to graduate school, the young actor drove instead to Los Angeles to try his luck in movie acting. A fresh-faced look and solid acting credentials landed Brendan his first movie, Dogfight, in 1991. This early success was quickly followed by his first leading role in Encino Man in 1992. That same year, in School Ties, Brendan played opposite such well-known names as Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.

More movie roles followed. In 1994 Brendan co-starred with Adam Sandler as a disgruntled budding musician in the comedy Airheads. He also played a supporting roles in The Passion of Darkly Noon (1995) and The Twilight of the Golds and George of the Jungle, both in 1997. In 1998, Brendan showed a flair for the dramatic in Gods and Monsters, where he held his own opposite movie great Ian McKellen. That same year, People magazine listed Brendan as one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world.

Brendan took on an action hero role in The Mummy in 1999, a part said to have been modeled after the character Indiana Jones. He finished off the 20th century with, ironically, 1999’s Blast from the Past, a romantic comedy.

The actor met the new millennium with a slew of movie credits. In 2000, Brendan led opposite a devilish Janet Herley in a remake of 1967’s Bedazzled. A year later, he breathed new life into his former character in The Mummy Returns.  (The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is due out in 2008.)

Brendan took a detour back to his theatrical roots on Sept. 18, 2001 to star in the Lyric Theater, New York’s production of Tennessee Williams’ Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. The play, which went as planned despite the tragic events of Sept. 11, also cast movie great Ned Beatty and English stars Frances O’Connor and Gemma Jones in leading roles.

Brendan has continued his impressive career with such films as Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star (2003), Crash (2005) and Journey to the End of the Night (2006).  In addition to the third Mummy movie, plans are in the works for a several 2008 releases including Big Bug Man, Inkheart and Singularity.

In all, Brendan has more than 40 movie, television and theater credits to his name, and with a full roster already planned for the future, it appears this versatile actor won’t be slowing down any time soon.

On the 26th December 2007, Brendan Frasier and Afton Smith decided to seperate after nine years of marriage by mutual consend. The couple said that they will "continue to maintain a close and caring friendship."
